Our Wyke site in UK was recently accredited as a Living Wage employer. While a national minimum wage applies for all businesses in the UK, the Living wage foundation believes that this is too low to allow people a good standard of living. Their calculated ‘real living wage’ is higher than the minimum wage and takes into account cost of living based on a basket of household items and services (read more about their calculations HERE).

Historically, Nufarm UK employees have already been paid above average, however, to be accredited as a Living Wage employer, the team had to ensure that our third-party contractors such as cleaners, security, canteen, and temporary agency staff are also being paid at this rate.

Through this accreditation and commitment prospective employees and our community will be reassured that we’re a responsible employer”
Heather Dowling, P2P administrator worked closely with our contractors to make sure a living wage is paid along our service chain. She explains: “Most of the service providers who historically pay minimum wage have worked with Nufarm for a number of years and have been involved in our tender process. We have always tried to pay above the minimum wage and with the contracts being reviewed regularly we could calculate the improved rates and issue for approval quickly. This enabled Nufarm to meet the deadline for the accreditation and subsequently all our contractors are really pleased. This will assist our service providers in recruiting and retaining good quality employees in the current climate.”
The Living Wage Foundation was established in 2001 and is a movement of independent businesses, organisations and citizens who believe a fair day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.
